NEWBERRY — The Newberry College volleyball team (7-8, 4-3 SAC) won its third South Atlantic Conference match in a row, sweeping Coker (7-6, 1-6 SAC) 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-23) Tuesday night at Eleazer Arena. Logan Hayward reached the 1,000 kill plateau for her career in tonight’s win.

Hayward has tallied 1,005 kills in her Newberry career after finishing with 14 tonight against Coker. She becomes the fourth Newberry player to record over 1,000 kills while wearing the scarlet and gray.

Three Wolves finished with double-digit kills. Madison Darby-McClure finished with 15 kills and three block assists. She ended the night with a match-best .583 attack percentage.

Hayward posted a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs. Andie Meredith tallied 12 kills. Maggie Marsh dished out 44 assists and Kensley Jordan notched a match-high 24 digs.

Newberry started quickly out of the gate, racing out to a 10-4 lead. Coker pulled within four points multiple times but could not come any closer. The Wolves notched the set one victory, 25-19.

The second set was all Newberry as the Wolves once again got off to a quick start and another 10-4 lead. The scarlet and gray controlled the set wire to wire to win 25-10.

The third set was much closer as the Cobras put up a fight. The set was tied at 7-7 before Newberry used a 9-1 run to lead 16-8. Coker moved within a point of the Wolves at 19-18 after a 10-3 Cobra spurt. Newberry fended off Coker’s attacks as Sidra Triplett’s kill gave Newberry a 25-23 set win and the match.

Megan Hardy led the Cobras with nine kills and Christen Bragg dished out 15 assists. Kara Overholt had a team-high 21 digs.

Newberry remains at Eleazer Arena on Friday as the Wolves take on Mars Hill (1-9, 0-7 SAC). Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
