ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Newberry College field hockey team (1-5, 0-3 ECAC) dropped an Eastern College Athletic Conference Field Hockey League contest to Lindenwood (4-1, 1-0 ECAC) 6-0 Saturday afternoon at Hunter Stadium.

Newberry had two good chances in the first 10 minutes as Daja Graham and Caitlyn Warren’s shots were saved by Skylar Starbeck. Lindenwood scored two goals in two minutes as Savannah Motley converted on a penalty shot and Greta Banholzer notched her seventh goal of the season.

After the Lions made it 3-0, Courtlyn Warren had three shots for the Wolves. Her first was saved by Starbeck while the other two were blocked.

Kayla Cooke registered a shot on goal at the 28:18 mark. Lindenwood led at the half 5-0. Dakota Elzy notched four saves for the Wolves at the half.

Neither side could get many shots off early in the second half. Newberry had plenty of chances towards the end of the contest. Caitlyn Warren’s shot was saved before her rebound attempt went just wide in the 64th minute.

Jessica Cooke also had a scoring opportunity denied just a minute later. Lindenwood scored just one goal in the second half to win 6-0.

Newberry totaled 11 shots in the contest, seven of which were on goal. Caitlyn Warren led the Wolves with four shots, three of which were on frame. Kayla Cooke, Graham, Courtlyn Warren and Kristyna Oyola all registered shots on goal in the game. Allison Davis took the loss after allowing two goals and picking up a save. Elzy totaled nine saves and four goals against.

Robben notched two goals for Lindenwood and Greta Banholzer dished out two assists. Starbeck picked up her fourth win of the season in net.

The Wolves will wrap up their six game road swing next Saturday and Sunday against Molloy (0-4) and Mercy (1-4, 1-1 ECAC) in New York.

Friday’s game

Newberry 1, Bellarmine 7

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine (4-3, 1-0 ECAC) defeated the Newberry College field hockey team (1-4, 0-2 ECAC) 7-1 Friday afternoon at O.B. Frazier Stadium.

The Knights opened the game scoring two quick goals in the first five minutes of the contest. Caitlyn Warren notched a shot on goal at 7:36 in the first half after Kristyna Oyola’s penalty corner.

Bellarmine’s Katie Jo Hollkamp scored her first goal of the season at the 19:00 mark. The Knights added another goal before the halftime whistle to lead at the break 4-0. Dakota Elzy recorded two saves in the first half.

Allison Davis saw her first action of the season in net for the Wolves. She played the entire second half and recorded a save. Katie Thompson recorded a great defensive save at the 46:09 mark to keep the Knights off the board.

Warren recorded her third goal of the season in the 65th minute off a penalty corner by Jessica Cooke. This marks Cooke’s first career collegiate assist.

The Wolves had a flurry of chances towards the end of the contest following two penalty corners. Bellarmine tallied three goals in the second half to defeat Newberry 7-1. The Knights are 7-0 all-time against the Wolves.
