NEWBERRY – Late goals by Quincy Kroeschell & Jordan Szustwal powered the Wolves (3-3, 1-2) to their first conference victory of the year in a 2-0 win over Coker (3-2-1. 2-1), who were given their first conference loss.

In the 77th minute, Kroeschell put in a deflection that came off the Coker goalkeeper to add his first goal of the season. Just over ten minutes later, Szustwal made a move around charging Cobra goalkeeper Michael Ritterbeck, as put the ball past the Coker defense to seal the win for the Wolves.

“I was fortunate to get a good ball from Jamie McAvoy,” remarked Szustwal. “The keeper came out and slid and he missed it, and I slotted it in. Very proud of the boys and the effort. All around a great team win.”

Szustwal had three shots in the match, two of which were on frame. Claus Simonsen & Sterling Wendt added two shots a piece for the Wolves’ who ripped off 13 shots in the game.

“For us, it was really how do we respond to our two conference losses,” stated head coach Bryce Cooper. “It wasn’t always pretty today, but the guys found a way. We really came on strong at the end and that was the difference. We’re excited, we’ll move on and prepare for Wingate on Saturday.”

Newberry goalkeeper Brad Dixon notched his first clean sheet of the year recording 5 saves in the effort. Dixon is leading the SAC in saves on the year with 42.

The Wolves will face another conference opponent on Saturday Sept. 24 as they travel to face Wingate. Newberry will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
