ROCK HILL — The Newberry men’s cross country team finished sixth out of 12 teams in the non D-1 school section for the 8k distance while the women’s cross country team finished sixth out of 13 teams in the non D-1 school section for the 5k distance.

The men’s total time was 2:26.47 at an average time of 29:22, while the women’s total time was 1:53.51 with an average time of 22:47.

The Wolves’ women’s team was led by freshman Emily Shuler with a time of 21:36.50. She was closely followed by fellow freshman Brittani Barratt who recorded a time of 21:53.50.

Also competing for the Wolves were Michelle Ling (22:38.50), Rebecca Burkhart (23:38.80), Katy Crout (24:03.60), Danielle Cruz (24:52.10), Alyssa White (25:24.60), Hayden Francis (26:25.70), and Makaylyn Higgins (26:50.50).

Leading the way for the men’s team was sophomore Caleb Bouwcamp at 28:37.0 shortly followed up by freshmen Shelton Reynolds at 28:42.80, and Quinn Wilson at 29:12.80.

Other Wolves who competed for the men’s 8k distance were Jorge Hernandez (29:55.60), Carlos Hernandez (30:19.20), Mondricous Hatton (30:31.80), Charlie Cook (30:47.80), Robert Stafford (31:00.30), Connor Roudabush (31:03.10), and Taylor Dennard (32:12.0)

Newberry’s men’s and women’s cross country teams compete next at the USC Upstate Invitational on Oct. 1. The men will again compete in the 8k distance, while the women will run the 5k distance.
