NEWBERRY — The Newberry Wolves’ volleyball team has been predicted to finish ninth in the South Atlantic Conference this season as the annual preseason coaches’ poll was released Tuesday. Senior outside hitter Logan Hayward has been named second team preseason all-SAC.

Defending regular season champion Wingate has been picked as the top team in the SAC with nine first place votes and 119 points overall. Last season’s SAC tournament champion Lenoir-Rhyne was picked second 111 points and three first place votes.

Newberry is in the ninth slot with 46 points, ten points behind Anderson who is picked eighth with 56 points. The Wolves finished last season with a record of 12-16 overall and 8-14 in SAC play.

Hayward played in all 27 matches while leading the team with 290 kills, averaging 2.76 kills per set. She was also second on the team with 362 digs and recorded 41 total blocks. Hayward accumulated 14 double-doubles this past season. This is the second time in her career that Hayward has been named second team preseason all-SAC.

Newberry begins the season on Sept. 2 with four matches in the King University Invitational in Bristol, Tenn. SAC play will begin at home against Anderson on Sept. 13.
