One killed in Sunday wreck
by Cindy Pitts
Senior Reporter

A wreck Sunday morning on I-26 near the 76 mile marker closed the interstate and left one person dead.

According to Newberry County Deputy Coroner Melody Martin, Sandro Desantiago-Ramarez, 35, of Taylors, was killed in the wreck. Three others were injured in the wreck.

Of those injured was a 33-year-old Greta Ramarez and Jeffery Ramarez, 7, both of Taylors, had non-life threatening injuries while Christopher Ramarez, 10, was critically injured.

The wreck closed down I-26 eastbound for a couple of hours as emergency crews worked to get other patients out of the vehicle and investigate the crash.

At one time the interstate was backed up to the 72 mile marker and detours were put in place.

The interstate reopened around 9 a.m.

Little Mountain Boy Scout Troop 61, sponsored by the Ruritan Club, is proud to announce that Michael Allen Morris completed his Board of Review on Dec. 12, and has been awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. Morris’ rank advancement was celebrated by family, friends and fellow Scouts at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor on April 143 at Macedonia Church. Michael is the 16 year old son of Kathy and Terry Morris of Prosperity and has been a member of Troop 61 since 2007. 2012 was the 100th Anniversary of the Eagle Scout and a special Eagle Rank was presented to Michael to commemorate this benchmark. Michael will be attending the National Jamboree at The Summit Bechtel Scouting Reserve in West Virginia in July along with 2 other scouts from Troop 61. For his Eagle Scout service project, Michael provided the leadership for, planned, secured funds for and organized the replacement of decorative landscaping at the Ruritan Building in Little Mountain. Pictured with Michael and his parents are Billy Lindler, Scoutmaster; Chad Morris, Andy Senn, Jeff Waters, Jeff Murray, Assistant Scoutmasters, and James Torrence, Committee Chairman.
