LITTLE MOUNTAIN — The Tour de Cure is a series of fund raising cycling events held in 44 states nationwide to benefit the American Diabetes Association. The Tour de Cure is a ride, not a race, with routes designed for everyone from the occasional rider to the experienced cyclist. Rides are 5 miles through 100 miles.
This is a combination ride with multiple start times, routes, and distances. This year’s routes of “The 2013 Tour de Cure,” begin from Little Mountain Reunion Park at 692 Mill St., Little Mountain. The first rides, a 100 mile and 65 mile ride, will commence from the park at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. The remaining start time for this event is 10 a.m. for the 30 mile, the 15 mile and the 5 mile rides.
In recent years, there have been concerns and complaints regarding traffic issues during this annual event. Caution should be held for all participants, riders, vehicle operators (whether local or ride supporters) and pedestrians alike. Please be extra careful and attentive to the cyclists and your surroundings during this event while travelling in Newberry County and while also travelling in Fairfield County.
Sheriff Foster stated, “This is a wonderful and very worthwhile cause that does so much for its mission. We want to make sure that everyone is safe and enjoys themselves while visiting here with us.” He further stated that “For those who live and/or work in Newberry County, and are not participating, we want to make sure that any inconvenience from the event participants will be minimal at the worst.”
