NEWBERRY — Giving recognition to their hard work and service, Newberry City Council recognized five employees of the city at their meeting May 7. Altogether, the employee years of experience totalled 60 years.
Mayor Foster Senn and Interim City Manager Al Harvey recognized Todd DeLeeuw and Jeffrey Weyers Tuesday for their five years of service to the city of Newberry. Both employees began working for the city in 2008. Deleeuw currently holds the position of Heavy Equipment Operator, while Weyers is Water Plant Operator B with the Utility Department.
Also recognized was Ron Roberts for his service of 15 years. Roberts began his work with the city in 1999 and holds the position of Fire Engineer.
For his work of 35 years with the city of Newberry, Yank Floyd was recognized, but was not present at Tuesday’s meeting. Floyd began his employment in April of 1978 and holds the position of Parks, Building and Facilities Specialist.
A special recognition was given along with the honorees of former council member Gregg Summer for his service and dedication of 12 1/2 years. Elected in October of 2000, Summer represented District 4, and served as a member of the Board of Directors with the Clinton-Newberry Natural Gas Authority from October 2006 to April 2013.
“Gregg always pushed for good government, and to make the city better,” Foster Senn told the group “He definitely succeeded.”
