NEWBERRY — The Newberry County Governmental Association held its annual meeting Monday. The town of Prosperity hosted the meeting this year at Dee’s restaurant. The social gathering began at 6:30 p.m., with the meeting starting at 7 p.m.
Each year at the meeting, the different municipalities get together and discuss ways to better the community as a whole. The speaker for the night was Scott Slatton, Legislative and Public Policy Advocate with the Municipal Association of South Carolina.
Slatton spoke to the group about legislative priorities for cities and towns. He provided three major challenges that cities and towns of all sizes face, as well as solutions to each problem. The challenges discussed were dilapidated structures, quality transportation/infrastructure maintenance, and dependable revenue sources.
Town administrator, Karen Livingston was appreciative of Slatton and his insight.
“The Municipal Association is a great source for updated information and we appreciate Scott speaking to the Governmental Association,” Livingston said.
