ORLANDO, Fla. - Virgil Odell “Jack” Rollins, 85, passed away on Nov. 9, 2012.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nellie, who he was absolutely devoted to, caring for her through her battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

He leaves his children Brenda and Ernest Rollins, his son David preceded him in death. He adored his grandchildren Melinda, Rob, James, Sara and Kelly as well as his great grandchildren Caleb, Camille, Chloe, Jayden and Alexis.

He and his surviving brother, Ed Rollins, remained very close and would have long conversations about family and football. Jack was born and raised in Newberry. Jack took great pride in his service in the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII and Korea, retiring as a Senior Chief in 1971. Jack is remembered for his open heart, pride in service, love of family and a good laugh.

He will be interred at Fort Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at 1 p.m. Visitation will be Sunday from 6–7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home, 1724 Main St., Newberry.

The family suggests donations to hospice, who helped his last wish of being at home and peaceful at his time of death a reality.

McSwain-Evans Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
