City workers unload the downtown Christmas tree on the square on Thursday. The Newberry Christmas tree lighting will be held on Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. in Memorial Park. The tree was purchased from a farm in North Carolina that supplies trees to the White House.

Joyce Vigus cuts the first limbs on the tree to fit it into the Christmas tree stand.

City of Newberry employee Gary Riddle cuts down the base of the tree for it to fit into the stand.
