The Newberry Agricultural Expo parade will not happen but there will be a Save our Shrine parade on Main Street the same day.

Due to issues with insurance, a permit was reportedly never filed with Newberry police for the agricultural expo parade that was planned for Sept. 29.

But the Save the Shrine has filed a permit and will host a parade from 10 to 11 a.m. on Sept. 29.

The parade line up currently only consists of Shriners and public safety officers.

After the parade there will be a Save our Shrine event at the Shrine Club located on Shrine Club Road off the C.R. Koon Highway from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event will include music and children’s activities.

Anyone wanting to be a vendor, provide music or children’s activities is asked to call Jake Boozer at 924-0620.

The Save our Shrine event was started by a burn victim that spent time in the Shriner’s hospital and wants to give back.

All the money raised will go to the Greenville Shriner’s Hospital.

Last year the event was held in Union and raised over $16,000.

The Newberry Agricultural Expo will also be held from Sept. 27-29 and will include farm exhibits and shows, a rodeo, vendors, entertainment and amusements.
