ROCK HILL — Newberry College outside hitter Samantha Parrish (Angola, Ind.) has been named first team all-South Atlantic Conference as released by the league office Thursday morning. Parrish becomes just the fourth first team all-SAC player in Newberry’s 16 years in the conference.

Parrish has been one of the top players in the conference while leading the Wolves to a historic season. She has set the Newberry single-season record with 426 kills, which ranks third in the conference entering this weekend’s Food Lion SAC Tournament. Her 3.8 kills per set ranks second in the league. She also set the career kills mark at Newberry, standing at 1,107 kills.

“Samantha has done a great job all year and it’s great to see her efforts recognized by other coaches in the league,” said Newberry head coach Todd Hay. “I’m very proud of her and she is very deserving of this honor.”

She also ranks seventh in the conference with 447 digs, which ranks in the top five in school history and is the highest in the conference amongst non-liberos. Newberry libero Elayni Stokes (Houston, Texas) has set the Newberry single-season dig mark with 522, ranking sixth in the conference.

Parrish is the only player in Newberry history with over 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs, as well as the only player to break the 1,000 kill mark in her junior season. She recorded 21 double-doubles in Newberry’s 30 matches thus far this season on the way to a 17-13 record.

She joins Priscila Sales in 2007 and 2008 and Aubrey Moseley in 2003 as Newberry’s first team all-conference selections.
