NEWBERRY — “There’s a lot of little things that will surprise you.”

That’s what Newberry County Memorial Hospital gift shop employee Joan Prince said on the the grand re-opening day of the Gift Nook.

Prince pointed out a writing pen in which the animal at the top moves as one writes.

Prince is one of the gift shop employees along with Lib Rodelsperger and volunteer Marilyn Malnati.

The three ladies put in many hours of work getting ready for the grand opening of the remodeled nook.

In fact, they have Halloween items and already have Thanksgiving and Christmas items along with wedding items, candles, Vera Bradley, candies and many other items people may purchase for those who must recoup in the hospital or just as gift items for any time of the year.

The ladies say that they don’t have any one favorite item, rather they love everything and buy plenty as well.

There’s also the people.

“We love meeting different people and seeing what new things come in,” said Prince.

Rodelsperger agreed, “It’s a fun place to work.”

The ladies are all retired and though they did not know each other before they worked at the nook, they certainly know and enjoy each other’s company now.

The Gift Nook is open on Sundays from 1-5 p.m., on Mondays from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. and on Tuesdays through Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. The nook is located at the front entrance of the hospital.
