PROSPERITY — The Community Yard Sale in Prosperity is almost ready to take off in town.
The Prosperity Business Association initiative for the town begins March 2 and will be the first Saturday of each month through June.
This is an annual series for the association bringing the community together and benefiting the association which helps out the town.
The yard sale is in the Grace Street parking lot and if anyone wants to rent out space, they should contact a member of the association or they can contact Marlene Spurgin, president of the Prosperity Business Association, at 364-0943 or Town Hall at 364-2622. The yard sale booths are first come, first serve.
The business association is also preparing for the first spring Hoppin’ festival to take place in May this year.
While the festival is a town organized event, the association helps out with some of the foods including their well-devoured fried frog legs.
The festival takes place May 4 this year and will be confined to just Saturday but all day Saturday.
The event kicks off with a 5k run/walk along with other events toward the square in the morning. Then the festival will take place in the evening with vendors, music and plenty of food. The event’s details are still being worked out.
A Hoppin’ pageant will be held April 27 and the winners will show off their beauty at the festival. The registration forms were not available as of Tuesday.
In other news, the association continued to discuss the postcards and mementos. While there is no new news on the horizon, the organization is still looking into its options and gathering ideas so that people who visit the town can pick up something such as a postcard, magnet or ornament to remember the town.
