NEWBERRY - A goal in the 31st minute by senior Colt Priest was not enough for the Newberry men’s soccer team, as the Wolves fell 2-1 to the visiting Anderson Trojans on Wednesday.

The scoring opened in the sixth minute when Anderson’s Tapiwa Munetsi scored from a tough angle inside the six-yard box to put the Trojans (2-8-2, 2-3-1 SAC) ahead by a goal. The Trojans added a second goal in the 27th minute when Martin Brain scored on a cross from Munetis.

In the 31st minute the Wolves (3-7-1, 0-5-1 SAC) drew a corner kick, which freshman Anthony Lucido (Lakeland, Fla.) drove into the box before the ball spilled out to the top of the 18-yard box. From 20 yards out, Priest (Marietta, Ga.) stepped forward and drove a low hard shot into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

Neither team took advantage of their few opportunities in the second half as the Trojans held on to a 2-1 victory.

Lucido’s assist was his fifth of the season, putting the freshman just outside the Newberry top 10 for assists in a season.

The Wolves next play on Friday as Newberry travels to Mars Hill for a 7:30 p.m. South Atlantic Conference meeting.
