A permit has been approved by Newberry police for the New Black Panthers to march on Saturday.

The permit was filed Tuesday afternoon and the New Black Panthers paid the $25 permit fee.

Police Chief Jackie Swindler says he has approved the permit that will allow the march.

The outrage march against hate crimes and justice for Anthony Hill will start with a gathering at Wise Street Park at 3 p.m. and the march will begin at 5 p.m.

The march will go from the park to the Courthouse.

After the march there “will be a closed meeting where residents and concerned citizens will continue discussions of actions needed to be addressed,” according to a press release from the New Black Panther group.

The New Black Panther group has also formed a local chapter with Tiffany Gibson acting as its chair.

Swindler says no other groups have filed permits to demonstrate on Saturday but adds the march will be like a ballgame which people from each side can attend.

we already have enough tension in newberry county about this horrible happening. we don't need the new black panthers coming in and inciting and creating more tension. have they not heard of the due process of the law? if the shoe was on the other foot they would be most willing for the due process to take it's course thru the system and not try to rush it. i pray to GOD this will be a peaceful event.

NWBO, had the permit not been approved the police would be giving this hate group exactly what they want and that being a reason to continue claiming racism on the part of our law enforcement and our citizens. It is up to us as Newberrians, black, white, hispanic or otherwise, to oppose these hate mongers! Again I refer readers to the website submitted by mcleod51 in a previous comment. The address is lenghty but very informative! Please take the time to visit it. hhtp://www.adl.org/learn/ext_us/malik_zulu_shabazz/default.asp?LEARN_Cat=Extremism_in_America&picked=2&item=shabazz All one long address but worth the effort!

IN my opion, as a citizen of Newberry County the approval of this permit is a slap in the face, to all whom are already having to deal with this terrible crime that happened in our county. Our Sheriff's Dept. is seeing to it being handled by laws we set. I lived in the area this happened for a number of years. Now living in the city I can't understand why, bring it up here. Just more ignorance being spred.
