NEWBERRY — A man has been arrested in connection with a Dec. 8 armed robbery.

Ernest Eugene Williams Jr., 44, of Cottage Avenue, Newberry, was arrested and charged with armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Williams entered the Lil’ Cricket at 1315 Kendall Road in Newberry and went behind the counter, said Newberry Police Captain Kevin Atkins.

Atkins said Williams demanded money and was armed.

Williams got away with an undisclosed amount of money.

Throughout last week Newberry police received tips about Williams’ location and information that he was still wearing the same clothes that he wore in the robbery.

Officers were able to arrest Williams on Friday and he is being held on a high bond at the Newberry County Detention Center, according to Atkins.

Atkins says that Williams has a lengthy criminal record.
