NEWBERRY — The Town of Little Mountain will have a new mayor in January.

Marty Frick garnered 67 votes by way of write in since nobody petitioned to run for mayor.

Frick is a former council member for the town and is also involved with the Little Mountain Reunion Association.

He has 12 years experience on town council and was mayor pro tem for eight years.

Frick said this in response to the town writing him in, “I would like to thank the citizens of Little Mountain for their confidence and trust they have placed upon me by electing me Mayor of our town. As most of you know, and those who have contacted me over the last few weeks this is not something that I actively campaigned for, nor did I expect anything like this to happen. I began to realize that I had no control over what was going to happen. I guess that I should be honored that I have friends and neighbors who have a level of respect for me to vote for me for mayor.”

As far as accepting the position, Frick says, “This is a surprising and very unexpected event and hope that you will respect that I need time to pray and to discuss with family and friends on whether to accept or decline the position as mayor. This is not a decision that i will take lightly and hope that you will respect my decision whatever it may be, and know that I will do this in my best interest, and the interest of our community.”

Current mayor Buddy Johnson did garner 20 votes by way of write in. Johnson served as mayor for 16 years.

In Pomaria, Jim Wilson won the second seat with 22 out of 23 votes by way of write in for town council.

Then in the Soil and Water district, Doug Heydt garnered 42 write in votes winning that open seat. Carroll Frick was second with 21 votes.

Over in Silverstreet, town council write in winners are Lisha Senn with 19 votes and Johnnie Wix with 18 votes. Jennifer Shepard did garner five votes; however, Senn and Wix will be the new council members.

The write in votes were just counted and finalized Friday.
