NEWBERRY — Newberry College head women’s basketball coach Sean Page is pleased to announce the hiring of former Newberry point guard Keisha Henderson as an assistant coach.
“We are very excited to have Keisha join the program as an assistant coach,” Page said. “She had a fantastic playing career here and we expect her to have a successful transition into the coaching ranks.”
Henderson returns to Newberry College as an assistant after wrapping up her four year playing career at Newberry during the 2011-12 season.
During her career as a point guard at Newberry, Henderson played in 109 games and started 34. In her senior season, Henderson was the starting point guard for Newberry in 27 games. Henderson averaged 3.2 points per game and 1.7 rebounds per game in her career. As a senior Henderson averaged 5.1 points per game and 2.9 rebounds per game.
Henderson’s standout statistics at Newberry College come in the assists column. Over her four seasons, Henderson recorded 237 assists, which puts the Columbia-native at No. 8 in the Newberry record book for career assists.
During Henderson’s career Newberry reached the South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball semifinals four straight years and in 2009-10 qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
Before she began her career at Newberry, Henderson played four seasons at Blythewood High School, where she was named team MVP all four seasons.
