SALUDA — The Newberry High boys’ basketball team kept four streaks alive Saturday afternoon in Saluda as they won their eighth straight regional game since last year and their seventh straight games since Jan. 1.

The Bulldogs are now 10-0 in the Saluda gym since the 2004-05 season on their inaugural trip there.

After Newberry’s 70-43 victory, the Bulldogs have scored at least 64 points in all 20 games they have played this season.

Having a two-game advantage heading into the game in the regional standings over Saluda, Abbeville and Batesburg-Leesville, Newberry’s magical number to claim their second straight regional crown will be down to one should they defeat Abbeville on Tuesday night in the Scott Gym.

Jalin Alexander made as many three-pointers in the first quarter, three, as Saluda made as an entire team in both meetings this season combined.

Newberry turned a 23-14 advantage after the first quarter into a 39-24 advantage at the break.

If the Bulldogs didn’t take the hometown fans out of the game in the second quarter, they all but did in the third quarter as Newberry took a 61-32 lead into the final eight minutes of play.

Newberry won the bench scoring 15-3.

Kaheem Praylow scored an evening high 25 points, a personal best for the senior this season in regional action.

Trey Miller scored 11 points in the final three quarters while Alexander finished with 10.

Jeremy Summers and Notorious Booker scored nine points apiece while Jaylen Lindsay scored four.

The Newberry scoring ended with the two points of Bennett Wilson as the team is now 18-2 on the season.
