Holly Astwood
Holly Astwood joined The Observers news staff in March 2000 as a staff writer, becoming editor in July 2005. A native of Michigan, holding a journalism degree from Michigan State University, Holly moved to Newberry via New Orleans after meeting her husband Owen, a native South Carolinian, in the bayou. Holly and Owen are slowly recovering home do-it-yourselfers and spend most of their spare time enjoying life through a childs eyes with their preschooler Isabel and infant daughter Madelyn.
Cindy Pitts
Cindy Pitts is a native of Newberry. She graduated from Thornwell High School and Presbyterian College, with a major in business administration. With experience in broadcast and print journalism, Cindy began working as a staff writer at The Observer in October 2003. She covers the crime and safety beat, along with the Prosperity Town Council and Newberry County Council. When not at work, Cindy enjoys gardening, cooking, reading, doing crafts and working on mission projects at her church. Her dream is to one day own a small, sustainable farm.
Kelly Snow
Kelly Snow joined the Observers staff in April 2007 as sports editor after a two and a half year stint at a similar position at the Courier-Times in Roxboro, N.C. He also worked as a beat writer covering college sports at the Richmond Register in Richmond, Ky. after graduating from UNC-Greensboro in Dec. 2003, and worked at the Herald-Sun in Durham, N.C. Snow is a huge sports fan and an avid supporter for the Carolina Hurricanes. He and his wife Autumn are the proud parents of Katie Grace, born June 2006, and Emily Paige, born November 2008.
Leslie Moses
Leslie Moses is a Savannah, Ga., native who loves to hear and write peoples stories. Leslie began working as a staff writer at The Newberry Observer in April 2008. She covers education, the City of Newberry and the Town of Whitmire for the paper along with whatever else comes along. Shes a graduate of Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah and enjoys the beauty of Newberry, church, jogging and treks to Columbia for coffeehouse reading and discussion with buddies.
