Upcoming

Whitmire has a new and successful after school program: “No Bounds Care,” held from 3-6 p.m. at the Community Center on Glenn Street in the former Park Street School Cafeteria. The program’s local representative is Geneva Ware. Mrs. Ware has co-coordinated and hosted the summer after school programs for the last four summers. This program will feature a hot meal, adult mentors to help kids with homework, and structured free time with adult supervision. Adults are welcome. The program is income based and the meals are free.

Visit www.noboundscare.org or for more information or contact Geneva Ware via e-mail at genevaware59@gmail.com.

The Whitmire Jaycees have their Main Street Yard Sale planned for Oct. 2 at 8 a.m. Spaces are $10. Vendors and yard salers can contact the Jaycees at 803-944-1116 or e-mail them at whitmirejaycees@yahoo.com.

This sale is a perfect way to raise extra spending monies or a civic group fundraiser. The phone number is the new number for the Jaycees. They are in the planning stages of the Halloween Carnival, to be held Halloween Night, October 31. The Whitmire Booster Club has hosted this event since 1975 and now the Jaycees will host it, keeping some traditions going and adding new things. There will be plenty of food, soft drinks, games, air rides and music in a child safe environment at the City Gym, behind the tennis courts.

Whitmire Town Council members, civic groups, school staff are all invited to participate in the follow-up ”Cultivating Communities” workshop on Sept. 23 at 4 p.m. at the Whitmire Fire Department.

On Sept. 21 and Sept. 28, the Whitmire mayor and council members will meet with county officials, such as planning and zoning staff, county council and the county attorney to learn and discuss nuisance ordinances, a.k.a. keeping clean residences and businesses, building codes and dilapidated buildings building. The meeting on Sept. 21 will be at the new County Annex and Council Chambers in Newberry. The Sept. 28 meeting will be at Town Hall Annex on Main Street in Whitmire.

In WCS news, Oct. 16 week is Homecoming Week at WCS. Be sure to wear blue and gold if going to any school functions. It’s a big week for students. The Oct. 16 pep rally will be a community pep rally on the tennis courts on Main Street at 2:45 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

In closing I say “Go Wolves.” The Lady Wolves tennis team is doing really well this fall and the Wolverines Varsity Football program is having some great wins too.
