NEWBERRY — The National Association of Basketball Coaches announced rising Newberry College junior Mitch Riggs has been named to the 2013-14 NABC Honors Court, recognizing those men’s collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season.
The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom.
Riggs completed his sophomore season on the hardwood in 2013-14 while he was academically a junior. He carries a 3.622 cumulative grade point average through five semesters, majoring in physical education.
On the court, he averaged 8.4 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game as a sophomore after being named to the South Atlantic Conference all-freshman team in 2012-13.
A record number 895 student-athletes from 338 colleges and universities earned NABC Honors Court distinction.
Riggs is one of 12 student-athletes from institutions in South Carolina on this year’s Honors Court and one of three South Atlantic Conference student-athletes - joining Anderson’s Chandler Hash and Myson Jones.
