PROSPERITY — Jesus fed 5,000 people with a young boys five loaves of bread and two fish that he offered from his lunch. Taking this verse to heart, Wightman United Methodist Church held their second Loaves and Fishes dinner Monday evening.
The community meal is one of many, as Associate Pastor Adrienne Fink says the free community meal will occur on the fourth Monday of every month from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. in Wightman’s Christian Life Center. The church is located at 302 North Main St. in Prosperity.
Loaves and Fishes is a group at Wightman UMC dedicated to meeting the needs of hungry families and individuals in the community, Fink said. The first meal was held last month in the church’s Christian Life Center.
Fink said the church began the community meal to offer a free and delicious meal to anyone who needs it, but also to get to know more people in the community, and to share the love of God.
No reservations are required to take part in the meal. Fink said they only ask that all children under the age of 15 have adult supervision.
Wightman’s next meal will be on Sept. 22 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
“We hope that the meal not only nourishes the body but also the soul of every person who attends the meal,” Fink said.
