NEWBERRY — On Oct. 25, Newberry Academy girls in grades 8 through 12 played in a powder puff football game on Newberry Academy’s athletic field behind the school after the student appreciation cookout.

The eighth-, ninth-, and 12th-grade girls formed the purple team and competed against the pink team of 10th and 11th grade girls. Though the game was technically flag football, the girls played with intensity and were not afraid to take a tumble for their team. The girls’ teams were also not without cheerleaders; the guys in grades eight through 12 showed up to cheer on their classmates as they took to the field. After a little over half an hour, the purple team pulled out a win with a final score of 22-6.
