NEWBERRY — The Newberry Opera House continued it’s outdoor concert series July 25 with performers Jerry Sims and Kristi Hood.

Sims, owner of Sims Music in Columbia, graduated from Berkley School of Music in Boston and plays Southern-String Guitar — a technique he learned from his friend and mentor Bucky Pizzarelli.

Hood is a world class jazz vocalist. She fine-tuned her vocals singing at Columbia College, USC and singing with the Dick Goodwin Big Band and duo gigs with Sims.

Prior to Sims’ and Hood’s performance, Doug and Bunny Williams entertained the audience in Memorial Park.

Continuing through August 9, each Friday night beginning at 7 p.m., live entertainment will be provided in the park free of charge.

The rest of the series is as follows:

• Aug. 1 — Doug and Bunny Williams

• ug. 8-9 — Newberry Community Players

The Opera House staff invites the community to bring their blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy Memorial Park at sunset for the remainder of the series.

Following the conclusion of the outdoor concert series, the City of Newberry will be hosting a movie in the park on Aug. 15. The movie chosen is the Lego movie.
