The Newberry County Sheriff’s Department reported the following incidents:

• Angie Toby, 38, of 97 Subertown Road, Whitmire, was charged with petit larceny on June 6 after deputies responded to a complaint that someone has stolen 45 to 50 Diazapam after multiple house guests were at a woman’s home on May 16. The complainant also reported $700 was missing from her purse. Officers were shown a Facebook post where Toby said she acquired $700 recently and posted how she had a new phone and was caught up on her rent.

• Steve Lemus, 18, of 378 James Williams Road, Newberry, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and no driver’s license on June 5. During a traffic stop on Brandon Road, Lemus told officers he did not have a driver’s license, which was confirmed through dispatch. Officers found a glass pipe and a baggy of marijuana during a search of the vehicle.

• Eric Fernando Teran, 22, of 1318 Pearl St., Newberry, was charged with third-degree assault and battery, driving under suspension and failure to stop for blue light on June 3. During a traffic stop on Shrine Club Road, Teran was getting his license, registration and proof of insurance when a plastic wrapper containing a substance believed to be marijuana fell out. Teran tried to hide the item, but the officer told him he saw it. Teran tried to destroy the marijuana. When the officer opened the driver’s door to stop him, Teran put the vehicle into drive and accelerated, leaving the scene. The officer’s arm to hit the vehicle but he was not injured. Communications said the vehicle was registered to 1318 Pearl St. Officers went to the Pearl Street address, where Teran’s family said he was not home and did not have a phone. A BOLO was issued for Teran and the vehicle.
