WALHALLA — The S.C. Native Plant Society holds a roadside botany event at 9:45 a.m. Aug. 10 in the Andrew Pickens District of the Sumter National Forest.

Participants will see the federally listed smooth coneflower and native orchids, milkweeds, asters and grasses along with a river gorge.

Participants should meet at the Ingles at the intersection of S.C. 11 and S.C. 28 near Walhalla. Bring a hiking stick, lunch, water and sunscreen, and wear field clothing and shoes. For extra safety, snake gaiters are recommended.
