POMARIA — Pomaria Town Council discussed the two seats that are up for re-election this November during its meeting on Monday night.

Councilmen Billy Fanning and Jim Redden will need to file before Aug. 15 if they want to retain their current seats.

Mayor Darryl Hentz said he is unaware of anyone running against either of them.

Hentz said the town is also planning some small repairs and general maintenance to the playground adjacent the Old Pomaria School as well as Pomaria Roadside Park.

“We have some bushes growing up and some riprap in the creek bed we need to check into,” Hentz said.

For those unfamiliar with term “riprap” Merriam-Webster defines it as, “a foundation or sustaining wall of stones or chunks of concrete thrown together without order.”

Hentz described the repairs as “not big dollar” and could potentially be something the town could take care of themselves without contracting outside services, although that remains to be seen at this point.

The discussion was informational and as of the present no action has been taken.

The only other item discussed was street lights issues which Hentz categorized as “typical.”

“We have to contact SCE&G and get them to look at the ones that aren’t burning or ones that need repairs,” he said, citing the lamps around the town’s walking track as currently in need of repair.

Council didn’t have much else to address due to the “slow” nature of summertime, Hentz said, but they are, however, looking ahead to the potential of receiving capital projects sales tax funding later this year should the referendum pass in November.

If indeed it does pass Pomaria would receive $655,000 to be allocated toward the renovation of the Old Pomaria School building currently utilized for council meetings and various other functions.

The project is one of 11 total projects which would receive immediate funding through a combination of money carried over from the current CPST, the product of a 2010 referendum, and proceeds bonded against the collection of the upcoming CPST.
