NEWBERRY — Newberry Academy has been named a 2016 National Beta School of Merit. Newberry Academy’s Beta Club, which is open to all eligible grade levels, provide students with experiences in leadership development and service involvement which strengthen and build their futures.

“This award is the first for Newberry Academy and it validates all of the hard work and dedication of our students members,” said Laurie Suber, Beta Club faculty advisor. “We are very proud of this accomplishment.”

Beta Club participated in numerous outreach projects both on and off campus during the 2015-16 school year. Along with assisting with activities for Newberry Special Needs & Disabilities, they also were active in both the Newberry Half Mile-athon and Relay for Life. They completed numerous projects throughout the Newberry Academy campus, including refurbishing the school’s library return box and promoting recycling activities.

Newberry Academy received a congratulatory letter and a National Beta School of Merit window decal to display as a symbol of the school’s accomplishment. In addition, the Academy will be included in a list of National Beta School of Merit recipients, which will be publicized at the 2016 National Beta Convention in New Orleans, La.
