NEWBERRY — The Summer Arts program sponsored by St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 1605 Main St. in Newberry, will begin on June 13 at the church. The program, open to children ages 8-14, will be offered through June 16 from 9 a.m. to noon.

This creative program gives young people opportunities to explore new avenues of self-expression in arts and crafts, music, writing, and drama. The participants work in small groups and individually with their teachers and other staff members.

Bridget Carey, graduate of Winthrop University with a minor in art, will direct the children in visual arts and crafts. Children will write and perform their own musical compositions under the direction of Bobbie and John Wagner, professional musicians.

Joanna Innes, retired from the Newberry College Department of English, will instruct writing, and drama will be led by David Schroer, a participant in the Summer Arts program for several years.

On June 16, the students will offer a closing program, which will be available to family members and friends.

The summer arts program is open to the first 30 students. Visit www.stlukesnewberry.com for an application or call John Wagner at 276-3205. Applications with a $10 fee to cover costs are due June 6 at the church office.
