NEWBERRY — The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a community meeting at 7 p.m. May 24 at St. Phillips Lutheran Church in response a series of burglaries in that community and surrounding area.

Sheriff Lee Foster said that since January, there have been a rash of burglaries in the St. Phillips community and immediate surrounding area. Foster says that the burglaries have occurred on varied dates and times but seem to be more common during the day.

Foster said that the burglaries have occurred on U.S. 176, Henderson Court, Piester Road, Halfacre Road, St. Phillips Road, Maybinton, S.C. 34, Mud Creek Road and in the general areas surrounding those roads.

Foster said that the items taken from furniture, jewelry, lawn care equipment, and firearms.

Foster said that investigators are following a number of leads in the case and have even gone door to door in the community seeing if the community members may have seen or heard anything unusual.

Foster said anyone who sees anything suspicious should call 911 immediately. He also said that the input and additional eyes and ears that the community can offer to such investigations is invaluable.
