NEWBERRY — Clyde Hill was presented with the 2015-2016 Presidential Award by Allen University during the 2016 Legacy awards banquet held April 30 in Columbia.

The award was given to Hill in recognition of his service as president of the Allen University Football Initiative and for his many years of outstanding support and service. The award was given by the General Alumni Association of Allen University.

Hill attended public schools and graduated from Bonds Wilson High School in North Charleston. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Allen University in Columbia and his master’s degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.

He has served as a teacher, coach and athletic director as well as Director of Recreation Services for the S.C. Department of Corrections. He worked in state government for more than 20 years before he retired.

He has served as chairman of the Newberry County School Board and is the current secretary of the board. He earned the Omega Psi Phi Epsilon Gamma’s Citizen of the Year Award, was chairman of the Allen University Football Initiative, member of the 1000 Plus Club, is a trustee of Miller Chapel AME in Newberry, is director of lay activities for the 7th Episcopal District in South Carolina, is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and a U.S. Army veteran.

He has owned Triangle Child Care Center and Tiny’s Fish and Wings Restaurant. He has been an active member of Miller Chapel AME Church for more than 20 years.
