Jimmy Hancock, co-founder of Sea Pro Boats, was named Newberry County’s 2016 Economic Development Ambassador. Hancock relocated Sea Pro to Newberry County in 2015 with the opening of a new facility in Whitmire which created 238 jobs. “I’m not sure that I deserve this. In fact I’m quite certain that I don’t,” Hancock said. “I certainly don’t deserve any more credit than my partner, Preston (Wrenn).” Hancock thanked the county for the part they played in the return of Sea Pro as well as the Town of Whitmire. “It really is a team effort,” he said.

The contributions of Hancock’s partner and Tidewater Boats founder, Preston Wrenn, were also acknowledged and director of economic development Rick Farmer said if two ambassadors could have been appointed Wrenn would have been the second.

Dozens gathered on the second floor of Community Hall Tuesday afternoon to celebrate the many contributions Newberry industries have made to the community over the past year. Catering was provided by The Cabana and the presenting sponsor was Alliance Consulting Engineers. The contributions of Alliance and numerous other businesses made it possible for the event to happen without the use of public funds.
