LITTLE MOUNTAIN — The town of Little Mountain will kick off the summer with the first of three movie nights this Friday. The first movie will be Alvin & The Chipmunks Road Chip in Reunion Park starting around dusk (8 p.m.).

This is a free event and is open to anyone who would like to attend, Little Mountain residents or otherwise. The town is using Southern Outdoor Cinema and is spending $1,300 on the event.

“This cost is for the movie license and the fee to the company that operates the screen, movie and sound system. The company, Southern Outdoor Cinema, are excellent to work with, very knowledgeable, skilled and friendly,” Mayor Jana Jayroe said. “This is a great chance for families to be together and have a common experience without stress or cost. This will also help with the strengthening of family bonds.”

The plot of Alvin & The Chipmunks Road Chip, according to imdb.com: through a series of misunderstandings, Alvin, Simon and Theodore come to believe that Dave is going to propose to his new girlfriend in Miami … and dump them. They have three days to get to him and stop the proposal, saving themselves not only from losing Dave but possibly from gaining a terrible stepbrother.

The movie was chosen after Jayroe created an online poll.

“The voting went great. I used a Facebook event for the voting. We received 74 votes total with Alvin & The Chipmunks winning by five votes,” Jayroe said.

Popcorn and water will be provided by Travis Goodman of Thrivent Financial Chapin. The Little Mountain Antique Mall will help with concessions. Both business will be sponsors for the movie night along with Shealy’s Citgo in Little Mountain and Little Mountain Unlimited.

“People may bring their own snacks and drinks, no alcohol will be allowed,” Jayroe said. “We also recommend people bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on.”

Jayroe is hoping for 200 or so attendees. The Facebook event page currently has 149 planning to attend and 663 interested in going. Jayroe said the community already appears to be excited for the movie night.

“I am most looking forward to seeing generations of families together having a fun evening,” she said.

The other two movie nights will take place June 17 and July 15.
