NEWBERRY COUNTY — The Newberry County Water and Sewer Authority board of directors has approved a line relocation project and a contribution to a force main extension.

The line relocation project is for Macedonia Church Road. The S.C. Department of Transportation plans to replace an aging bridge on that road at Susannah Branch. The NCWSA had an existing six inch water line and an existing 10 inch sewer line within the SCDOT right of way.

The estimated relocation cost is $60,000. The Board approved the relocation unanimously.

The town of Little Mountain recently requested a quote to extend sewer service to a parcel near the intersection of West Church Street and North Mill Street.

Brent Richardson, manager of NCWSA, said they would normally install the line extension since it is less than 2,500 linear feet and less than eight inches in diameter but this will require directional drilling equipment. Instead the NCWSA Board agreed to contribute $5,000, which is normal labor and equipment contribution.

Other business

• Four main line breaks were reported: Clara Brown Road (an eight inch leak at coupling), U.S. 76 at S.C. 773 (10 inch line damaged by contractor), Silverstreet Road (four inch line damaged by SCDOT) and Werts Road (2.5 inch minor leak).

• Six new water services were installed this month.
