NEWBERRY — Jr. Beta Club membership is at a five-year high at Newberry Elementary School, with 18 NES fifth graders being inducted into the National Jr. Beta Club for 2015-16.

Jr. Beta promotes and develops leadership skills, enhances student character, and provides service to others.

“This is the largest group we’ve had in the five years I’ve been here,” said NES Guidance Counselor Amanda Glasgow. “We will focus on a few projects this year that will be of service to the school such as mentoring younger students, disposing of outdoor playground litter, and volunteering in related arts classes.”

Students in Jr. Beta Club are required to maintain an average of 90 or above in the subjects of Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. The club is for fifth grade students who demonstrate academic excellence and commendable character.

NES club officers are Devani Gonzalez Vela, president; Angel Cook, vice president; Sha’ Daimon Henderson, secretary; and Jaasai Montes Torres, treasurer.
