NEWBERRY COUNTY — Deputy Sheriff Francisco Javier Torres of the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office recently completed a 12 Week Basic Law Enforcement Training Program term at the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy and is now a Class I Certified S.C. Law Enforcement Officer.

Torres graduated as a member of Class #643 on Feb. 12.

A resident of Newberry County since January 2012, Torres began working with the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer with the Newberry County Detention Center in December 2013.

Torres is a 2010 graduate of Fitzgerald High School in Fitzgerald, Ga., and furthered his studies at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Ga. He joined the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office in 2013 as a Corrections Officer and was then selected to become a deputy.
