NEWBERRY — Republican David Koon has announced he will run for the South Carolina House of Representatives, District 40.

Koon is a 1991 graduate of Mid-Carolina High School, and earned an Associate in Occupational Technology at Midlands Technical College, and a Bachelor of Arts at the University of South Carolina.

Koon is currently employed at the City of Columbia Fire Department and serves as a senior deputy fire marshal. He will retire on April 1.

Koon is a former adjunct instructor at the South Carolina Fire Academy, was the co-owner of a small business, a former volunteer firefighter at Little Mountain and Chapin Fire Departments, has served on the Little Mountain Elementary School Improvement Council, St. Peter Lutheran Church Council and is currently a Newberry County Joint Planning commissioner, having served as chairman and vice chairman.

Koon and his wife, Denise, live in Little Mountain. They have been married for 16 years and have two daughters, Madelyn and Meredith, and are members of St. Peter Lutheran Church.
