NEWBERRY — Arvid Dickert Lominick Jr. has been named the 2015 Charles Harshman Corrections Officer of the Year for the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office.

The Charles Harshman Corrections Officer of the Year is awarded to an employee who has shown dedication, loyalty and leadership above and beyond the call of duty. This individual must epitomize the image of a dedicated Corrections Officer and must also maintain the standards of the Office.

The award is named in honor of Charles Harshman, a former employee who worked was a sergeant in the Newberry County Detention Center.

“Dickert is an employee who has a great attitude, does an excellent job, and is a valuable asset to the agency,” Sheriff Lee Foster said. “He is an exceptional employee and has the respect and admiration of his staff and co-workers. Dickert was the logical choice for this award.”

Individuals considered for the award must have the quality and quantity of work contributed by an individual that exemplifies commitment and dedication.

Lominick is a lifelong resident of Newberry County and graduated from Whitmire High School in 2007. In April 2009, Lominick was hired as a Corrections Officer with the S.C. Department of Corrections and assigned to the Tyger River Correctional Institution.

Lominick was hired in February 2010 to work in the Newberry County Detention Center and was promoted to sergeant (supervisor) in February 2012. His duties include but are not limited to being in charge of the supervision of the administrative and operational security activities for his shift at the Detention Center.

He is the son of Arvid Dickert Lominick Sr. and Debbie Lominick of Whitmire.
