WHITMIRE — Newberry County School District is a part of the WPEC Consortium. This Consortium sponsors the WPEC Academic Challenge for middle and high students. This is the second year WCS has participated in the Middle School Academic challenge.

Last year the middle school academic team traveled to Laurens Middle School, Sanders Middle School, Clinton Middle School (called Bell Street Middle at that time) and Newberry Middle School.

The Academic Bowl consisted of WCS Middle, Mid-Carolina Middle, Clinton Middle, Gray Court Owings Middle, Westview Middle, Newberry Middle, Sanders Middle, Ware Shoals Middle, Laurens Middle and Hickory Tavern Middle.

The WCS sponsors are Alison Cody and Tonia Jeter, which is how WCS had the opportunity to host the Academic Bowl.

This year’s Academic team members are Wyatt Crase, Raven Druckemiller, QuAsia Epps, Andrew Felker, Dalton Gambrell, Addison Hardy, Keri Lawson, Kade Proctor, Jacquline Riser, Caitlyn Rise, and Isaiah Williams.

“Hosting the Academic Team was possible due to the efforts of middle and high school teachers who volunteered their name in order to help make sure things went smoothly,” Tonia Jeter said. “Ms. Suber helped beforehand in the planning as well as during and after with set-up and cleanup. There were many positive comments expressed by visiting schools. Thanks to all those who volunteered their time.”

“It was so nice to show off our great school,” Alison Cody said. “Without the efforts of everyone throughout the middle and high school, it would not have been possible.”
