POMARIA — Pomaria-Garmany Elementary School recently congratulated its students for reaching the second nine weeks reading goal of 13,225 books.

PGE students read 24,560 books by the end of the second nine weeks.

For the nine weeks’ school wide celebration, PGE’s Reading/Writing Committee turned a classroom into a magical “Reading is Snow Much Fun” Snow Room.” This Snow Room featured snow caves, snow mounds, a fireplace drying winter clothes on a rack, life-size snowmen, snow drifts, a snow mural and an igloo.

Each homeroom signed up for a 45 minute slot in the Snow Room during a designated week. During this time students enjoyed a snow read aloud shared by Principal Lindsey Folk or Administrative Assistant Paige Graham. The students also enjoyed drinking hot chocolate.

After the read aloud and hot chocolate, the Snow Room was set-up for the students to choose a place to enjoy independent reading time. Students could sit on the snow mounds or under an igloo or snow cave.

After this Reading Celebration week and during the winter months, the Snow Room will stay open for teachers to take their class in for additional independent reading time.

The Snow Room will also serve as a station for our parents and students to enjoy during the school’s “Loving Literacy,” night on Feb. 8 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
