POMARIA — The Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands may be interested in using the Pomaria Recreation Building on Folk Street this summer, Mayor Darryl Hentz reported at this week’s town council meeting.

Hentz said he received a call from a representative to take a look at the building.

“We had the application last year, that was probably a little late, and we never heard back from them,” Hentz said. “Somebody new called and said she would like to come up and see the building again.”

Last year, The Boys and Girls Club looked into leasing the building for the summer. The organization would serve youths over the summer with games, fitness and other activities. Hentz will meet with the representative today and let her look around the facility.

“I think she got some calls from community people, there is an interest for people who use it for their children and grandchildren,” Hentz said. “This is still just a visit. We have to determine, if they want to use it, if we accept or not.”

In other business, the the street lights in Pomaria have started being repaired.

Clerk-treasurer Kristy Graham said she contacted Kenny Inman with SCE&G and the street lights were fixed the next day. Jimmy Wilson said there is still one street light that is still out.

“I have seen the same one on since then, may need a new sensor or something replaced,” Hentz said.

Other Business

• The town will look into setting a price for renting the recreation building’s auditorium. Hentz suggested that they study other similar locations and see where the market is. This was decided after Wilson made a suggestion about setting a standard fee.
