NEWBERRY — Newberry College student-athletes once again had a great semester in the classroom in fall 2015, as the Wolves posted massive numbers of successful grades.

Of 559 student-athletes in classes in the fall, 295 of them recorded grade point averages over 3.0 for the fall semester, including 159 student-athletes who earned Dean’s List honors with over a 3.5 grade point average for the semester.

A total of 45 student-athletes had a perfect 4.0 grade point average in the fall semester and 17 student-athletes have perfect 4.0 grade point averages for their entire Newberry career.

In addition, 14 of Newberry’s 19 varsity sports team collected grade point averages of over 3.0 in the fall semester.

This was led by the women’s basketball team, who had a team GPA of 3.519 in the fall semester. The baseball team had the highest fall GPA of any male sport with a 3.41 grade point average for the term.

“It is refreshing to see the results of our student-athletes’ performances in the classroom continue to improve and set the bar higher for future student-athletes at Newberry College,” director of athletics Matthew Finley said. “None of this would be possible without our dedicated student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty, and staff – particularly our Center for Student Success – who put their heart and soul into helping our student-athletes achieve their dreams while studying at Newberry College.”
