NEWBERRY — Rick Martin, a Republican from Newberry, reports that he filed his quarterly financial disclosure with the S.C. State Ethics Commission on Jan. 8, showing he had $54,000 cash on hand.

Martin announced on Oct. 1, 2015, that he intended to run for the House Representative seat currently held by Rep. Walt McLeod. McLeod has since announced that he will not seek reelection.

“For the past three months I have been working hard talking to hundreds of Newberry County residents about how to improve our education system, fix our crumbling roads and bridges, and reduce the tax burden on our citizens,” Martin said in a press releases emailed to The Newberry Observer.

Martin, a lifelong resident of Newberry, and his wife, Fran, have been married for 26 years and have four daughters and one foster child, according to the release.
