Foster families needed

NEWBERRY COUNTY – Of the nearly 1,100 children in foster care in the Upstate, 28 of them live in Newberry County, creating an urgent need for quality, caring and loving families to become resource foster families.

A resource foster family provides temporary care for foster children that preserve and support family connections. Resource families are more involved with both birth family members and the case planning for the children in their care.

The Department of Social Services has contracted with the S.C. Youth Advocate Program-Resource Family Program to recruit, support, license and retains resource foster families in 10 upstate counties.

With the help of dedicated people, many formerly abused or neglected children and teens will be cared for by resource foster families until they can safely reunite with their parents or be placed in a permanent setting.
