PROSPERITY — Prominent local leaders will serve as Educators for a Day at Mid-Carolina Middle School during the National Education Association’s 94th annual American Education Week celebration taking place Nov. 16 through Nov. 20.

Guest teachers will spend some time during enrichment at Mid-Carolina Middle School to experience firsthand school activities under the guidance of a cooperating educator. They will also read a book that teaches a lesson or discuss some of life’s lessons that they have learned along the way.

Mid-Carolina Middle School’s Educator for a Day event is part of a nationwide effort to draw attention to American Education Week’s tagline “Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility.”

The tagline represents NEA’s vision of calling upon all Americans to do their part in making public schools great for every child so that they can grow and achieve in the 21st century.

Participants will include Superintendent Bennie Bennett, Mayor Darryl Hentz of Pomaria, Mayor Foster Senn of Newberry, Mayor Jana Jayroe of Little Mountain, Mayor Derick Underwood of Prosperity, Sheriff Lee Foster, Dr. Lynn Cary, Dr. Beth Brooks, Dr. Timothy Hunter, Assistant Superintendent Jim Suber, Pam Arrington, Wendy Stoudemire, School Board Member Jessie J. Reeder, County Councilman Travis Reeder, Katrina Singletary, Frankie Bennett, Kaye Jamison, Eugene “Bubba” Griffith, Rep. Walt McLeod, Sen. Ronnie Cromer, and Bobby Crawford.

NEA’s American Education Week presents all Americans with an opportunity to honor individuals, including community leaders, who are making a difference in ensuring every child receives a quality education. The week-long celebration spotlights the different people who are critical in building great public schools for the nation’s 50 million K-12 students.
