NEWBERRY — The Newberry Downtown Merchants Association hosted a coffee hour on Sept. 8 at Main and Nance, the new event venue in downtown Newberry.

The Christmus family — Mark, Elizabeth and Sarah — offered their space so downtown merchants could meet their neighbors.

Attendees discussed upcoming events, including plans for the traditional holiday season open house. The annual membership drive is underway and a few attendees picked up their new member applications.

Applications are available from the NDMA secretary at 1309barklin@gmail.com. Acting Police Chief Roy McClurkin dropped in to hear what might be on the minds of business people in the downtown area.

The upcoming Oktoberfest event was discussed and merchants are looking forward to a good crowd. The NDMA board of directors meets monthly on the first Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. All businesses in the core downtown Newberry area are welcome to join the Association and members can attend board meetings.

The primary focus of the NDMA is to promote the growth of downtown businesses via targeted marketing and promotions and to provide mutual support to new and existing businesses.
