NEWBERRY — Tickets are going fast for the Newberry County Chamber of Commerce’s Farm to Table Dinner, which serves as a kick off event for the 2017 Ag+Art Tour, coordinated by the Clemson Cooperative Extension.

“The Farm to Table dinner concept was something we have discussed in the past, and when we decided to definitely take on the Ag+Art Tour, decided to participate in it, they (Clemson Cooperative Extension) encouraged each county to do a kick off event,” said Executive Director Michelle Long. “We thought that would be a perfect way to incorporate the Farm to Table dinner.”

According to thespruce.com, Farm to Table is a phrase that can mean different things to different people. However, Farm to Table most commonly means that the food on the table came directly from a specific farm, without going through a store, market or distributor along the way.

“The concept of Farm to Table is you take your locally sourced foods, and take them straight to the table pretty much, with as few steps as necessary,” Long said.

All the food will come from local sources, and be cooked by local chefs. Black Grove will provide the beef, Bowers Farm will provide the chicken and eggs, Chappells Nursery will provide the produce and the wine will be provided by Enoree River Winery and Proverbs 31 Winery. The meal will consist of hors d’oeuvres, beverages (including beer and wine), salad, an entree and dessert.

Long said this will be a very full meal, and no one should go away hungry.

The chefs for the evening will be Steven Foulis (Steven W’s), Wes Fulmer (Motor Supply Company Bistro, and Newberry resident), Kendall Hamm (The Blend), Kevin Looney (The Palms), Cathy Taylor (Made from Scratch) and John Worthington (Figaro The Dining Room).

One of the most important aspects of any meal, the dessert, will be made by Hamm and Taylor, Taylor is also making all the breads.

Tickets for the Farm to Table Dinner are $75, and are limited to the first 100 people. The dinner will take place at Waldrop Farms. The dinner will take place on June 22 at 7 p.m.

“The money is going to roll back into the Ag+Art Tour for next year, the goal is to utilize some of the proceeds in coming years for scholarships, but we have to work up to that,” Long said.

If you would like to purchase tickets for the dinner, you can do so by either calling the Chamber at (803) 276-4274 or visiting their website, www.newberrycountychamber.com, and clicking on Ag+Art Tour. This will send you to a link to purchase tickets.

Newberry’s Ag+Art Tour will take place Saturday, June 24 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday, June 25 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
